A few months ago, a small indie film called Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens was released in cinemas and it's fair to say that it did exceptionally well. Now the internet is full of speculations about the plot and what direction the upcoming sequels will be taking. We're not here to talk about that though... Over the past year or so, drone enthusiasts all over the world have been combining their remote control quadcopter building skills with a deep knowledge of the force (or just a love for Star Wars). The RC Geeks staff have seen many of these custom builds and we're pleased to share some of the best that we have found.

#5 - Millenium Falcon

https://youtu.be/-oufm-SXdiI How's that for a good start? This was built by French drone maker Olivier C, who has written numerous build blogs on his work. This is the 2nd version of the Millenium Falcon that he's created and it's bigger and much more agile than before. Weighing in at 1675g, this aircraft can fly for around 8 mins thanks to the 3300mAh 4S LiPo battery (so it probably won't make the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs).

#4 - Imperial Speeder Bike

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lg5YRMJY6I Remember that scene in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi? Yeah, that one. Speeding through the trees looked like so much fun, even if it did have a few obvious hazards. With this quadcopter, made from an old action figure, you can zoom through the forest while remaining safely in one spot. This is all thanks to the tiny FPV camera mounted on the Stormtrooper's face (sorry buddy). Just add some goggles or a monitor with a video receiver, and you're good to go!

#3 - Tie Interceptor

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFa0D1fq54k This night flight really shows off the awesome lighting at the back of the quadcopter, and the flashing from the Naza flight controller looks just like the blasters firing. You could just imagine this on a stealth mission, if it wasn't for the rotor noise. Check out the full build of this design here.

#2 - Imperial Shuttle

https://youtu.be/Tymo8PAPph4 It's like we've actually stepped into the movies with this one. Who'd have thought the body started life as some enlarged paper craft plans? Adam Woodworth has done a fantastic job building this and a lot of thought has gone into the fine details, especially the use of a servo to retract the wings.

#1 - R2D2

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMDPFLsrv8g While not traditionally thought of as an aircraft, R2D2 has always had a few tricks hidden away in that chassis. This version of the famous Star Wars droid is a Styrofoam model with a quadcopter (mostly) hidden inside. It features a DJI GPS autopilot navigation system, a camera in its eye, and LED thruster lights. On top of that, the head moves and there's a speaker for all the beeps and whistles. Sadly, we do not have these for sale, but we do offer drones in all shapes and sizes. Have a Luke below...

Star Wars has got nothing on these:

Anyone can be a pilot thanks to RC Geeks' stock of quadcopters, which are perfect for hobbyists and professionals alike.
