Following on from our S900 under 7kg build blog part 1, we continue our build blog of the DJI 900. In part 2 we will cover attaching the Zenmuse Z15-GH4 Gimbal, Lightbridge, Canhub and Battery. In part 1 we built the frame and attached some of the componets. Our first step in part 2 is to attach the GCU to the gimbal, and attach the wires.
Once these have been connected, it is time to attach the gimbal to the underneath of the S900 airframe. This is fairly self-explanatory as the mounting brackets line up rather easily. The back of the gimbal has the wires coming out of it.
Once attached, connect the power to the gimbal, by plugging the GCU in to the yellow XT60 connector on the bottom of the S900.
Attach Canhub here, ensuring that the gimbal is plugged in to the CAN 1 port for it to function correctly.
The wiring is attached like so, excuse the spaghetti junction for now, as this will be tidied later.
Attach the wiring to the Lightbridge, the gimbal port wire attaches to G7 on the gimbal and the DBUS connects to the X2 port on the A2.
The Lightbridge can be attached to the airfram like shown here.
Antennas can be attached here.
For this build we used a 9000mah battery to keep the weight down, attach to the tray with velcro and the battery strap.
We start to tidy the wires using cable ties.
We used 2 x Futaba 8J transmitters, our first step is to enable the switches on the radio, this is done on the radio through the menu. This is to choose the switches for functions such as failsafe etc.
After setting up the radio's, plug the Lightbridge (ground end) in to the computer, and boot up the software. Here we configure the channels and calibrate stick movements on both transmitters.
Once configured, you will need to reconnect the A2 to the computer, and using the A2 software, set the receiver type to D-BUS and recalibrate the radio stick movements.
Also now is a good time to double check the channel mapping of your transmitters to make sure everything is configured correctly.
You will also now need to configure the battery settings in the A2 Flight Controller. For this battery we will need to enable battery protection, and tell the A2 that we will be using a 6S Lipo.
Once the channels have been setup correctly, it is important to test everything before attempting flight. Spend time testing the motors are spinning in the correct direction and ensuring the flight controls are functioning in the correct orientations. This is vital to have safe control of your S900 so spend as much time as neccessary on this stage until you are happy everything is correct.
