My love for quadcopters started over a year ago with the release of the first DJI Phantom. I was amazed by the build quality and the technology DJI have managed to pack in to this quadcopter. Now, over a year on there is three great Phantoms to chose from ranging from £350 to £832. But which one should you chose? A lot of people ask us for advice on which model to go for, and they are mainly torn between the Phantom 2 and the Phantom 2 Vision. Lets take a look at the differences between all four. The Phantom at £349.95 is a great entry level quadcopter that features everything you would expect from a GPS enabled quadcopter (return to home, GPS stabilised flight, GoPro mount and more). If you are purchasing your first quadcopter this is a great choice that won't break the bank but should be enough to satisfy your aerial photography itch. In November 2013 DJI released the eagerly awaited Phantom 2 Vision. Promising 25+ minute run time and a FPV system through your smartphone right out of the box. At £832 it wasn't cheap, but it was great value for money. Over the previous year several people have spent £100's on modifications for their Phantom, such as Fatshark goggles for FPV, modified motors and extra batteries. The Phantom 2 Vision has several of these features right out of the box. In December 2013 DJI released the Phantom 2, it features the same airframe, and long flying time as the Vision, but does not include a camera or FPV. However, bundled with a Zenmuse gimbal for £632 its a perfect choice for those wanting super smooth professional quality video's out of the box. It does require a GoPro which many photographers will already have. So, back to the original question of which one you should choce, I would conlude as follows: DJI Phantom: Great Entry level quadcopter for those wanting good aerial photography DJI Phantom 2 Vision: For those wanting oustanding flight time combined with FPV functions and good photography/videos out of the box DJI Phantom 2 with Zenmuse Gimbal: For those with a GoPro who want super-steady professional quality video's with long flight time.
