Now reading: DJI FPV Drone Pre-order and UK release information
In what appears to be the worst kept secret in DJI’s recent history, they are releasing a brand new drone on the 2nd of March 2021 at 2pm GMT. It will be an all-new FPV drone and transmitter designed to work with the latest version of their cutting edge digital FPV goggles. We take a look at the current rumours and leaks found on forums and boards across the web and discuss its price and upcoming availability in the UK.
Early leaks of product listings and closed-beta apps have pointed to the drone being called the ‘Flash’ although recent sightings of the manual suggest the drone will just be referred to as 'DJI FPV'.
DJI FPV will likely be an all new three-component system that provides pilots with a new dynamic flying rig, controlled by an all-new gamepad style controller, hooked up to advanced video googles with a HD video downlink. Whilst DJI have supplied components for FPV drones before (the Snail Racing Propulsion System), this is their first foray into a ready-to-fly kit. Considering their track record we expect the drone to offer unrivalled accessibility, allowing complete novices to pilot what is a traditionally complicated and tricky aircraft. Looking at the spec it looks likely to be a freestyle drone with high quality camera onboard, for those looking to capture dynamic flight videos rather than the hyper-speed racing seen in the DRL.
The recent leak of this image, brings credence to Drone DJI's reports of a new wireless controller concept for the DJI FPV system. The current line of thinking is that the drone can be operated with one hand using this pistol-grip format controller thanks to the Nintendo Wii-style tilt sensors inside.
Whilst pricing hasn’t been confirmed, we are expecting the combo kit to retail at around £1200 with the batteries rumoured to cost around £140 each. We will have more information on the important cost of spare propellers, replacement shells and other parts after the launch.
DJI have all but confirmed that the drone will be officially announced on Tuesday the 2nd March at 2pm GMT with this announcement on their site. We are expecting to receive our initial batch of the FPV Combo in the same week with further batches arriving later in the month. Stock will be limited and we will be fulfilling orders on a first-come first-served basis, so order early to avoid disappointment.
The drone will shortly be available to order on our website, check back to this article for a link, or keep an eye on our social media platforms to be informed. Alternatively sign up to our newsletter using the box aside or underneath this article, to receive product release emails.
Full confirmed specification of the drone is still pending, but recent leaks from what appears to be the official product manual show a 795g 6S quad with front-facing sensors and a UHD camera:
We can take a closer look at the drone and box contents thanks to this video from Dominion Drones leaked earlier in February:
From this reference, the FPV Combo kit appears to contain the following
